In 2009 and 2010 I wrote a series of articles in the Financial Post on the economic crisis. They were published under the heading "They might be weeds: A green shoots reality check." The links are now gone from the FP website but the essays are here. These ones have links to sources (that might be obsolete by now) and a few extra sentences that were edited out of the print editions.
GLOBAL FINANCIAL CRISIS: On January 19 2011 I spoke to the Guelph Third Age Learning Group on the subject of the causes and consequences of the global financial crisis, or specifically the US financial crisis. My paper is here. Accepting an invitation to speak on this topic gave me an opportunity to read up on some of the voluminous literature and sort out the basic mechanics of it. The paper stretched to 30 pages and yet I often felt I was hardly scratching the surface of the various issues in play. Later I gave the same talk to our undergraduate class in Banking and Finance.
